Kevin's Heart
Kevin's Heart is the 7th song on the album, and it is the narrative of a man caught between love and lust. His woman is everything that he could have prayed for, but he cannot stop entertaining the women that are in his phone. This is the case for many people in relationships; it's like they are torn between settling down and still being in the streets. Cole mentions being an addict at the very end of the song. In this song I believe he is an addict to lust, greed, and power. He has the power to have different women because of his status, but his inability to exercise his self control causes him to be greedy. In being greedy, he is forced to lie to himself and live a double life just so he can have the best of both worlds. This is a terrible life to live. It leads us down a road of dishonesty, infidelity, and destruction.
But there is Hope!
Many people have broken these addictions that have ruined relationships and personal aspirations, so you are most definitely able to as well! This falls as an ego problem. This is why the ego must be starved! It is very dangerous and easy to give into temptation; doing the wrong thing is always easier than doing the right thing. But look, whatever you focus on will be the most apparent. If you focus on who's on social media or in the streets, rather than the one who is holding you down at home or school, of course you will want to be in the streets. Feed that part of you that wants to be honesty, pure, loving, righteous, and of integrity because that is what is going to make your mental healthier, and your life more abundant.
Starve the Ego. Feed the Soul.
